The Boat Jetty Bungalow
The Boat Jetty Bungalow was originally known as P.K.V House, residence of the Puthenpurackal family, an aristocratic family which was one of the oldest Christian families in Kerala. The P.K.V House (Tharavadu) was built in the year 1891 by Late Rao Sahib P.K. Varughese, a prominent lawyer & Senior Adviser to the Maharajah of Cochin. He played an important role in the Instrument of Accession of the Government of India which allowed the Kingdom of Cochin (princely state) to join the Federation of India. ‘Rao Sahib’ was a title of honour issued during the era of British rule in India to individuals who performed great service in visionary leadership to the nation. The title was accompanied by a medal; the medal carried the image of King George VI of England. He has also received ‘The Veerachangala’ (The Golden Chain of Honour) awarded by three consecutive Maharajah’s of the Princely State of Kochi. It was awarded to recognize the distinguished contribution to the Kingdom.
This Residential Bungalow was handed down by Rao Sahib P.K.Varughese to his eldest son, Late P.V. Kurian. P.V. Kurian in turn handed over the bungalow to his youngest and beloved son, Late P.K. Mathew. The P.K.V House witnessed great moments in history, like the World Wars, the Independence movement of India and many other domestic and prominent issues. In addition to that, many famous personalities were hosted at this Bungalow and it played an important role in the formation of The P.K.V Group of Concerns (Since 1920)
It was the vision of Late P.K. Mathew that this bungalow should be preserved and maintained as a Heritage Hotel. Now this heritage hotel is owned by his son Mr Alex Mathew. We believe that others should also witness the importance of a place which stood strong and tall through all these 132 years.
We make sure that our guests get accommodated comfortably in this aristocratic bungalow at an affordable price. May you cherish every moment of your stay in this historical place.
